10:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Battery Fab Manager Day

Moderated by Gerrit Bockey (PEM), Jörg Schütrumpf (VDMA)

Powered by PEM at RWTH Aachen University and the German Engineering Federation (VDMA)

At the Battery Fab Manager Day, experts from the battery industry will come together to talk about current developments in the battery industry in five sessions. In addition to general market developments, the core topics range from next-gen batteries to trends in battery production technology, quality and data management, and material and component developments. In addition, start-ups and companies new to the battery industry will present their innovative developments in pitches.

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM | Session 1: Developments in Battery Production Market
Driven by the growing electric mobility and renewable energy industry, we are seeing a dramatic increase in the demand for sustainable energy storage solutions in recent years. In this context, the lithium-ion battery has been the go-to technology to meet all requirements. But how is the battery production industry powering up to meet the global demands? Who are the dominating players of the market and what are the impacts of shifting regulations? This sessions’ speakers delve into market trends as well as challenges facing the battery production industry and thus set an outlining and frame of this day’s program.

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Session 2: Next-Gen Batteries
Cheaper, safer, longer lasting, and more sustainable: The requirements that are imposed on the next generation of batteries are quite challenging. In this session, experts from the industry are going to share their insights on what future energy storage solutions might look like and what issues have to be addressed in order to make them able to compete against classical lithium-ion batteries.

1:30 PM – 3:10 PM | Session 3: Technology Trends in Battery Production
What will tomorrow’s battery production look like? Driven by a constant demand for cheaper, better and more batteries, the machinery and equipment suppliers are faced with the challenge to make their equipment more efficient in terms of costs, material usage, energy consumption, and required space, while at the same time maximizing production outputs. This sessions’ speakers are going to give their insights on what technological advances will be helpful.

3:10 PM – 4:00 PM | Session 4: Quality and Intelligence in Battery Production
As the materials for battery production are quite expensive, high quality and precision standards play a major role in battery production. To ensure a low scrap rate and to meet safety standards, extensive quality assurance measures need to be taken. Possible approaches to address these include metrology by using state-of-the-art sensor technology and data-driven approaches – the core topics of this session.

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Session 5: Materials and Components
While much of the attention in research and development of future batteries lies upon the active materials, the potentials for improvement in passive components is not yet exhausted. This session focuses on the latest developments in the various components of the lithium-ion battery.
